Press Release: Digital Innovations’ Consumer Awareness Campaign Continues with Free Guide on Proper Laser Lens Cleaning

Arlington Heights, Ill., – Sept. 16, 2008 – Digital Innovations, the company that developed the SkipDr® and the industry’s leading cleaning and optimization products for consumer electronics, has released its second educational guide as part of the company’s Home Electronics Care Campaign. The white paper, “Laser Lens Cleaning: Solve Disc Problems With a Clean Laser Lens,” helps educate consumers about how to optimize laser lens performance for both traditional and Blu-Ray media players, including methods to fix such problems, preventing costly electronics replacement.

“Laser Lens Cleaning: Solve Disc Problems With a Clean Laser Lens” explains to consumers that skipping, freezing and distortion are not always caused by dirty or scratched discs, and a dirty laser lens in the disc player might actually be the cause of playback problems. Small contaminates, such as dust, hair, lint or smoke residue often settle onto laser lenses.

The paper is part of Digital Innovations’ ongoing Home Electronics Care Campaign, which is designed to help consumers protect investments by teaching them how to properly care for and optimize their electronics, including flat-screen and LCD screens for TVs, computers, cell phones, handheld devices and more. The company hopes that with the knowledge presented in the campaign, consumers will be able to better maximize their dollar and the life of their products.

“Consumers are generally unaware or erroneously informed about how to properly care for the laser lenses in their disc players,” said Randy Lervold, vice president of marketing and sales at Digital Innovations. “If a disc is having trouble playing, it does not necessarily mean the disc is the problem, or that the entire system needs to be replaced. The answer might be as simple as cleaning the laser lens, which is recommended after every 40 hours of use for optimal performance.”

To properly clean dirty laser lenses, consumers can utilize optical lens cleaners. These items look similar to a video or audio disc, however they feature small brushes that clean the laser lens as the disc rotates in the player. Consumers should be advised that not all laser lens cleaners are alike. Digital Innovations is the only product line on the market to date designed to work for Blu-ray player devices. Created with the company’s exclusive Zero-Clearance Technology™, the CleanDr® Laser Lens Cleaner is the only product of its kind that uses state-of-the-art technology to safely and effectively clean Blu-ray player devices.

For more information consumers can download “Laser Lens Cleaning: Solve ‘Disc Problems With a Clean Laser Lens” at Consumers will also find a support section which addresses frequently asked questions about player and disc maintenance, such as “Is the type of scratch important?” and “How do I identify label-side damage?”
